New Technologies

Fake news isn't a new phenomenon likewise CGI isn't new technology however as CGI develops and begins to seem almost like a new technology with what it is capable of fake new has the capacity to become more and more prevalent in society. In class we discussed the case of Tom Petty's "death" and death. Fake news is what made so many people believe Tom Petty was dead but how much worse would it have been if there could have been CGI photographs that looked so life like they couldn't be distinguished from? This article explains just how big of a deal the developing capacity of CGI could be on the creating and spreading of fake news. It discussed how with the death of Carrie Fisher before the new Star wars movie came out many fans were devastated and wondered how they would finish the movie. However the CGI was so spectacular audience members couldn't tell the difference. When I went to see the movie I honestly thought they had finished filming the movie befo

Reflection on Social Media Case 12: United Breaks Guitars

Customer service should always be a businesses main focus! United definitely learned this the hard way! It's sad to think of how much money they could have saved and all the bad press that could have been avoided if they had simply done their job the right way the first time! Before the days of social media incidents like this probably wouldn't of had nearly as massive of an effect. Social media allows information to be shared instantly. I'm always surprised and frankly a little annoyed with how many negative complaints I see on social media, but they have an impact on the way I view companies. I'm seen people complain about customer service at different clothing boutiques or restaurants and it really does diminish my outlook on those companies. In the case of United Dave Corroll seemed to be providing true beneficial information, however I think a lot of people will bash companies when they really don't deserve it! I work at a clothing boutique and I know we've

Reflection on Social Media Case 11: OK Go Gravity Song

I found this case to be a little bit of an overreaction. I don't fully understand why OK Go was so against posting their video on YouTube to begin with if they ended up posting it there in the end. I do however understand the frustration with the airline posting the video without permission. It's hard to tell if S7 posted it fully understanding they were breaking the rules or if they simply made a mistake, either way I can understand why OK GO would be upset. Social Media needs to be a companies baby. It has so much power over the way a company is viewed and their reputation in society. With that being said wanted to make sure content is published where you want and when you want it is a valid concern, I just don't really understand why YouTube was such a negative choice. I think YouTube is a much better option for a music video then Facebook Video. The only place I ever look for music videos is YouTube. It's interesting to see just how sticky big companies arguments ca

Reflection on Social Media Case 10: Miracle Mattress Twin Tower Sale

I found this case study shocking! I can't even comprehend how someone could have thought this was a good idea. In no world is it acceptable to take advantage of something as horrible as the events of 9/11 in order to make a profit! Not only that but the video itself was a mockery of the events. When the two men in the back fell into the mattress towers, what a complete lack of class! While I one hundred percent do not agree with the actions the Miracle Mattress took I don't think they're alone in taking horrible situations and trying to turn them around in order to profit a company. Some do it in a classy way and others do not but it could be a hard line to distinguish. This article and this article discuss different companies that did the same thing as Miracle Mattress in one way or another. My favorite was when Kenneth Cole twitted that all the uproar going on in Egypt during the Syrian Crisis was really just everyone freaking out about his new spring line. Insert palm
